Canada Day at Canada Place

My most recent video production, shot/ edited/ and scored by myself with additional camera work from Tyson Gibbons and Jon Kaiser on the day of the shoot.  It all came together nicely, and was my first real production done in Final Cut Pro X.  It all went extremely smoothly, but I'm still getting used to the FCPX paradigm shift!

Color Grading Central

I happened on Color Grading Central 2 weeks ago and watched all of the free tutorials Denver Riddle has posted. The tutorials go through basic color correction in Final Cut Pro X, but can be useful no matter what editor you are using.  His videos are very well produced, and definitely worth watching!

I know there is a lot of fuss being made about FCPX and the lack of their color correction program "Color" but these videos show you what is actually possible within FCPX, and it's actually pretty great!

Did I mention they are free???

The Bacchae

I had the pleasure of writing a bunch of original pieces for a play being shown at TWU right now, it's called "The Bacchae" and it's an extremely liberal remake of Euripides' ancient Greek play about Dionysus.

The play was written and directed by Aaron Caleb, and stars Mackenzie West (one of my composition students) as the pop star/ diva/ female Steve Jobs-wannabe named Diona.  It's extremely tongue-in-cheek, but is a riot to behold.

The students do an amazing job with the roles, every part is handled with flair and excellent comedic timing. Aaron's dialogue is hilarious, and somehow believable despite the surreal circumstances.  The set is fantastic, designed by a TWU student, and the lighting is perfect.

So go see it!  The show runs for 3 more days, each night at 8:00 and one matinee on Saturday as well.

Here is a mock commercial for "The Wand" a device Diona uses to control the masses.  I shot this in my studio, and did the music for it.

CreativeLIVE BTS with me!

Kenna and Susan literally cornered me and got this little interview... now I don't have to type it on my blog!  Let it be known that I ALSO truly love Tony Robbins and everything that he does.  Maybe one day I'll be a motivational speaker... maybe I already am!  I just love Tony's bottom line-being grateful, and I couldn't be any more grateful with the way things have gone recently!

Mr. Nobody

I watched the most amazing movie the other day.  Really.  It's pretty much everything I've wanted to do with film!  Anyhow, it might not be for everyone, but I thought it was absolutely brilliant.  It's called Mr. Nobody, and it stars Jared Leto, Diane Kruger, and Sarah Polly, and was written and directed by Jaco Van Dormael.

Everything was done so perfectly: the acting was great, the cinematography was great, the music choices were great, and above all the writing was great (with a good helping of cobbled up string theory, it had me at the first mention of dimensions).

I won't say too much about the movie, other than that if you liked Amelie, Run Lola Run, Groundhog Day, Benjamin Button, Big Fish, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Frequency, (you get the idea, basically all my favourite movies) then you will love this one!

Here are some user comments from IMDB to sum it up:

"Genius"

"What have I done to deserve this?" (I agree completely)

"Astonishing and profoundly moving!!"  yup

"Why are you not watching it RIGHT NOW?" I concur!

"A Wonderful Film - From Start to Finish"

"An experience of a lifetime" to be taken literally and figuratively

"Shaken & Stirred .... the Explosive Cocktail of Life!"

"Everyone should see this brilliant film"

"Wow. Simply wow"

It's on iTunes, so I highly recommend watching what is now my second favourite movie! (right behind A Christmas Story of course!)
